Symbolising imperial authority, the Chinese dragon motif is reserved for the emperor in ancient China. The Chinese dragon is seen on palaces and tombs as well as in paintings. A celestial guardian, the dragon represents the east and the element of wood in Chinese astrology. The Ming dynasty porcelain vase displays a three-claw Chinese dragon amidst the patterns of lotus flowers. The powerful stance of the dragon contrasts vividly with the massiveness of the vase. The grace and power of the three-clawed Chinese dragon is recreated in a vase, which is available in two sizes.
