FOUR MAJORS

The four Majors are run by individual golf organisations and played from April to July each year.

THE MASTERS TOURNAMENT The Masters is organised by the Augusta National Golf Club, and was started by Bobby Jones, the legendary golf amateur champion, in 1934. THE UNITED STATES PROFESSIONAL GOLFERS ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIP The United States Professional Golfers Association Championship takes place in May. First played in 1916, it is organised by the PGA of America, not to be confused with the PGA Tour. UNITED STATES OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP The United States Golf Association organises the United States Open Championship, which from next year (2019) onwards will be played in June. The first tournament was held in1895. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews has organised the Open Championship, also known as the British Open since 1860. It is always played in July. The final round of the Open Championship from next year 2019 onwards will be the deciding round for the Royal Selangor Trophy.
